日本三大峡谷の一つで、清津川が長い年月をかけて削り出した渓谷。断崖絶壁や奇岩怪石が連なり、四季折々の美しさを見せます。渓谷沿いには遊歩道や展望台が整備されており、散策や写真撮影が楽しめます。また、渓谷内には歩行者専用のトンネルがあり、「大地の芸術祭」の作品として光や音、水などを使った幻想的な空間を体験できます 。

The gorge is lined with precipitous cliffs and strange rocks and stones, and shows its beauty in each of the four seasons. Along the canyon, there are walking trails and observation decks where visitors can enjoy strolling and taking pictures. There is also a pedestrian tunnel in the canyon, where visitors can experience a fantastic space with light, sound, and water as part of the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennial.
