十和田神社には占場と呼ばれる場所があります。そこでは、お金やお米を白紙にひねったものや、宮司が神前に供えて祈念をこらした「おより紙」を湖に投げ入れると、願いが叶うときには水底に引き込まれるように沈み、叶わないときんは重いものでも浮いたまま波にさらわれ沖へ流されるといわれています。

It is said that if you throw money or rice twisted into a blank piece of paper, or "oyorigami," which the priests offer before the gods and pray for, into the lake, it will sink to the bottom of the water if your wish comes true, and if not, it will be carried away by the waves and washed out to sea, even if it is heavy.
