毛利輝元が1604年に指月山麓に築いた萩城は、別名「指月城」とも呼ばれています。高さ約15メートルもの五層の天守などがありましたが1874年に全て解体、現在は石垣と堀の一部が残る桜の名所となっています。

There were a five-story castle tower and other structures that were about 15 meters high, but they were all dismantled in 1874. Now it is a famous cherry blossom spot with only stone walls and moats remaining.
