沖縄本島の北部の本部半島にあり、外郭を含めると７つの郭からなり、その面積は首里城とほぼ同規模の大きさです。
2000年12月には「琉球王国のグスク及び関連遺産群」として世界遺産に登録されました。
平成18年には公益財団法人日本城郭協会により、日本100名城にも選定されています。
It is located on the Motobu Peninsula in the northern part of Okinawa Island and consists of seven enclosures including the outer enclosure. The area is almost the same size as Shuri Castle. In December 2000, it was registered as a World Heritage Site as “Gusuku Sites and Related Properties of the Kingdom of Ryukyu”. In 2006, it was also selected as one of Japan’s 100 famous castles by the Japan Castle Foundation.
