古来より牛馬の神として崇められている中山神社は、飛鳥時代に創建されたと伝わる美作国の一宮です。花岡岩でつくられた高さ11メートルもの鳥居は貫に木鼻と呼ばれる突出部が全くないため、全国的に珍しく評価されています。
