1000年以上の歴史を持つ祇園祭は、外国人観光客にも人気な全国的に有名なお祭りです。7月17日と24日に行われる祭りのメイン、八坂神社の神輿渡御と34基の山鉾巡行は、「京都祇園祭の山鉾行事」としてユネスコ無形文化遺産にも登録されています。昼間の祇園祭もにぎやかですが、日が暮れてからの祇園祭もまた違う雰囲気を味わうことができます。
