2500余年の歴史を持つ、全国に約500社ある「阿蘇神社」の総本社です。阿蘇を開拓した健磐龍命をはじめ十二神を祀る由緒ある神社です。
2016年の熊本自身で日本三大大楼閣の一つである、楼閣や拝殿などが倒壊する甚大な被害を受けたが、修復作業が進められています。

It is a venerable shrine that enshrines twelve gods, including Takeiwatatsu no Mikoto, who opened up Aso. It suffered extensive damage in the 2016 Kumamoto earthquake, when one of Japan’s three largest towers, the tower and worship hall, collapsed, but restoration work is underway.
