“A residence built by Shimazu Iehisa, the 18th head of the Shimazu family, around 1601. It is a castle consisting of a mountain castle behind and a residence at the foot of the mountain. It has a rare structure without a castle tower and is affectionately called Tsurumaru Castle. All that remains now are stone walls and stone bridges. The adjacent Kagoshima Prefectural Library is the site of Ninomaru.”
