標高924mの開聞岳の麓にある古社。天照大神などの8柱を祀っており、交通や航海の安全や漁業守護のご利益があるといわれております。
玉手筥あるいはあけずの箱と呼ばれる「松梅蒔絵櫛笥」は国の重要文化財に指定されています。他にも琉球から伝わった額や島津家に関係する古文書など貴重な品々があります。

It enshrines eight pillars including Amaterasu Omikami, and is said to have benefits for traffic and maritime safety and fishing protection. The “Matsuume Makie Kushiki” or “Akezu no Hako” box is designated as an important cultural property of the country. There are also valuable items such as frames from Ryukyu and old documents related to the Shimazu family.
