県内の神社や寺院でそれぞれ日を定めて無病息災・豊作を祈る夏祭りで、長い歴史をもちます。
神社や寺院には、氏子や子どもたちが和紙にさまざまな絵や文字を書いたものを張りつけた灯籠が奉納されます。
六月灯は、鹿児島の夏の風物詩として受け継がれ、今も多くの人で賑わいます。7月に入ると、ほとんど毎日のように市内のどこかで花火が打ち上げられます。
A summer festival held at shrines and temples in the prefecture on different days to pray for good health and a good harvest, with a long history. Lanterns decorated with various pictures and characters written on Japanese paper by parishioners and children are dedicated to the shrines and temples. Rokugatsu-tou is inherited as a summer feature of Kagoshima, and is still crowded with many people. In July, fireworks are launched almost every day somewhere in the city.
