神話の時代からの歴史があり、日本武尊の霊が白鳥となって舞い降りたという伝説が残る神社です。
広い境内には日本一大きな鏑矢や環境省選定の「かおり風景100選」のクスノキや白鳥の松原には日本一低い山(3.6m)があります。
