この流し雛は、桃の節句に川や海へ雛人形を流し送る、源氏物語（文献初出は1008年）に出てくるほどに歴史のある日本古来の行事です。
「家族仲良く幸せに」などの願い事が込められた祈祷棒を、和紙で作った雛人形(形代)に託し、神職と巫女（みこ）が池桃枝に乗せて民家村の禊池へ流すことによって、罪・穢を祓い去る神事です。
This nagashibina is an ancient Japanese event that dates back to The Tale of Genji (first appeared in literature in 1008), where dolls are sent down rivers or seas on Peach Blossom Day. The prayer sticks with wishes such as “happy family” are entrusted to paper dolls (katashiro) made of Japanese paper, and the priests and shrine maidens float them on peach branches to the purification pond of Minamiya Village. It is a ritual to purify sins and impurities.
