内城を中心とした４８万㎡が国指定史跡で、黒田長政が慶長６年に玄界灘を一望に収める福崎という低丘陵地を利用して築城です。
堀には県指定天然記念物のツクシオオガヤツリが自生するほか、春は濠沿いの約1000本のソメイヨシノが美しく咲き誇ります。
A castle built by Nagamasa Kuroda, a feudal lord of Fukuoka domain, in 1601 on a low hill overlooking the Genkai Sea. It covers an area of 480,000 square meters and is designated as a national historic site. The moat is home to the giant horsetail, a prefectural natural monument, and in spring, about 1,000 cherry trees bloom along the moat.
