山頂は標高約132mで、天守は更に約30m高くそびえたっていて、頂上から360度見渡せるその景色は圧巻です。
松山城放火事件により大天守を除く本壇の現存建築を焼失しており、1935年に天守など35棟の建造物が当時の国宝保存法に基づく国宝に指定されています。
