このお祭りは、1962年の7月8日に鹿島市で大水害からの復興を願い、踊りで市民を元気づけるために始まりました。
鹿島おどりとは、烏帽子・白丁姿の青年がひしゃくや日月を象徴する採物や白幣などを持ち、太鼓などのリズムにのって陣形を変えながら踊るものです。
参加者は約3千人。会場には屋台が出店し、和太鼓の演奏なども行われ、賑わいを見せています。
This festival started in 1962 on July 8th in Kashima City to wish for recovery from a major flood and to cheer up the citizens with dance. The Kashima Dance is a dance where young men in eboshi hats and white clothes hold ladles, objects symbolizing the sun and moon, or white coins, and dance while changing formations to the rhythm of drums and other instruments. About 3,000 people participate. There are stalls at the venue, and performances such as Japanese drums are also held, creating a lively atmosphere.
