Aichi Prefecture is located on the Pacific Ocean side of the Chubu region. It has industrial cities centering on Nagoya City, and rural areas with rich nature, history, and culture.
It can be roughly divided into the Owari region in the east and the Mikawa region in the west.
Aichi Prefecture is the birthplace of Japan's automobile industry, and is home to many large companies such as Toyota Motor Corporation and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.
The prefecture is also active in international exchange, culture and the arts, and in 2005 hosted the Aichi Expo. At Moricoro Park, the site of the Expo, you can see one of the world's largest planetariums and a statue of the giant robot "Gundam.
As legacies of famous warlords of the Warring States period such as Nobunaga Oda, Hideyoshi Toyotomi, and Ieyasu Tokugawa, beautiful castles such as Nagoya Castle and Inuyama Castle, as well as Zuiryuji Temple, the family temple of the Owari Tokugawa family, are still preserved in the area.
There are also many traditional festivals, such as the Nagoya Festival, one of the three major festivals in Japan, the Toyohashi Festival, and the Okazaki Castle Ieyasu Festival.
Aichi Prefecture is also rich in culinary culture, with Nagoya delicacies such as miso katsu, chicken wings, miso nikomi udon, as well as local delicacies such as Nagoya gochin, tenmusu, and hitsu-mabushi.
It is also one of the three major tea-producing regions in Japan, with Hekinan City and Nishio City producing high-quality green tea.
